In 1990 the Lake
Macquarie Zebra Finch Society suggested that a Federation of Zebra Finch
Societies be formed. In 1996 the 5 societies of the federation got together in
Sydney and had a conference followed by the first ever National Teams
competition. Each society to bring their best 4 birds of a predetermined 12
classes The best 3 were shown and the 4th as a reserve.
2006 saw a change to the format of the show, with every mutation being shown. Each team only brought 2 birds plus a spare.
